How can I ensure my computer's security & privacy when I turn it into a computer repair technician?
I have some important & privacy sensitive files on my laptop, but the motherboard is malfunctioning, & not allowing my computer to boot up at all, so I can't perform a system backup and restore. Since I just have a motherboard problem, and it can be resolved without the use of my HDD, I simply unscrewed my laptop and took it out. I'm gonna mail my laptop in for repairs without it, but I want to make sure I've covered all my bases. Is there any way a computer tech could still pull up my old files or programs? Please don't tell me not to worry about it and just to send the entire machine in. I don't want to because 1. Sometimes techs perform system restores when it's completely unnecessary and I don't want to lose the important information and programs on my HDDand,2. I know some of them go through your files which I really can't afford to risk because someone could easily steal my identity or other personal info with some of the files I had saved on my computer. K T" laptop will not turn on?? it could be various reasons." I'm positive it's a motherboard problem. The LED lights will come on, but the monitor will not and nothing will boot. It also refuses to accept a charge from the jack. Lots of the problems point to a faulty motherboard, a computer technician even diagnosed it for me.Bill M, I'm not required to send my HDD in with my unit. One of the lower employees told me I was at first, but I spoke with someone above him and they told me it was unnecessary. I've also read that it's unnecessary, seeing as it's just motherboard issue.
What are the most common hand tools of computer repair technician?
What can you expect to get payed as a starting computer repair technician?
I seem to be getting a lot of varying opinions on what PC techs get paid either starbucks wages or starting 32k salaries. I think that this lack of agreement in opinion is probably based on where techs are located, the companies they work for or if they are self employed , their education experience, and how talented smart of a tech they even are to begin with. I see that Geek Squad pays starting of about $10 an hour for techs in store, and $16 at in home service. This seems very low to me, but that shouldn't be surprising considering they are a corporation feeding off of young techs that don't have the confidence experience to work on their own.My mother pays her technician $60 dollars an hour to come to her office home. She only owns here basic Windows Vista laptop, so it's not like she is having him set up servers or troubleshoot big networks. He charges $35 an hour if she takes it to his house to work on it there. She is very satisfied with his work. Her second go to technician asks for only $20 an hour, but I guess he is never shaven, doesn't wear nice clothing, and does a fairly poor job on his repairs. She prefers the more expensive service for its quality. So currently I'm studying to become A certified. I realize this is a fairly useless degree, but I'm doing it for fun I like reading texts , and to boost some confidence before I try to actually get some work. I have built a couple computers, upgraded many, repaired and troubleshooted for friends and family. So I'm not a complete noob, but no computer science expert eitehr.I am considering starting my own business this fall. I would try to be aggressive in marketing my business with a website, flyers, and yellow page listings or something. Is it reasonable that I can start out asking $30 an hour? If I could work four hours a day, five days a week, that's $600 a week, $2,400 a month, $28,000 a year before taxes. Hell, that's a lot better than working as a barista in college making $9 an hour 32 hours a week.Is my reasoning accurate? I really want to be self employed, and I'm certain that I will be one day. I'd rather fail and make low money working solo than continuing being enslaved by other people. Thanks, hopefully my cynicism wasn't too insulting.

What qualifications do I need to become a computer repair technician in the UK?
I finished my computer science degree 8 months ago and after working at a FTSE 100 company for 8 months I have realised my life sucks and I would ideally like to be a DELL certified systems enginner but there is no hope in the as DELL don't offer anything along those lines so I cannot get certified.I was thinking of instead becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer but that seems nothing to do with repair technician roles.

Training to become a computer repair technician?
I'm 17 years old and I am determined to get a job in the computer industry. I will be going to school in the fall to get my A certification and I'm really excited about it. I know there are many other certs that are probably better, but for me it's a huge start. I'm really interested in fixing computers, hardware and software issues. My goal is to become a repair tech for a small local company to just learn and get some experience under my belt. My real interest is security and penetration testing, but that may be something for the future. Right now I just want something that will pay the bills. I was wondering what other training I would need to become a repair technician. I can't really afford to go to a 4 year college, but I know a degree in computer science would benefit me greatly. Any advice for this would be greatly appreciated.
