How can I remove available recording devices in the Windows registry?

I have a certain piece of software I have to use (business requirement) and it records audio. The problem is, it changes to a recording device that I can’t use every time I start it. Is there a way, in the registry, to remove this device as an available option?
I know what you’re getting at, but that won’t work here. All the devices are bundled under one hardware entry in the dev man, and I need to turn off JUST front mic without disabling rear mic.

Hi, you don’t need to go into the registry to try and disable hardware. Trying to disable hardware within the registry can be a real pain.
The recording device you are referring to should be listed in device manager.
To go to device manager depends on which version of windows your running.
If you go to control panel it is usually called computer management. Within computer
management you should see device manager. Find the device right click and you
should see an option to disable. Once disabled it should not default to it any more.
    hope this helps.
