Okay, i was doing some computer cleaning, deleting junk files, uninstalling, etc… then when i restarted my computer, my operating system, windows xp media center, the whole interface was lost. in other words, i cant see my desktop start menu, everything was reseted as if it was in safe mode and the whole GUI, graphical user interface stopped working. SO i cant copy my files or other things that i want to save before i would install the whole operating system all over again. SO BASICALLY I THINK THAT THERE IS A REGISTRY ERROR OF SOME KIND AND I CANT CLICK, COPY, CUT, ERASE, OR ANYTHING, NOT EVEN START ETC. How can i repair the system, i already tried system restore but it gives me an error that it is corrupted. I think of either using recovey console in windows when ou boot it up, BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE THAT!!! PLEASE HELP !!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pull the hard drive and install it as a 2nd drive in a working computer. then copy all your stuff off it to cd’s or dvd’s or whatever. Then put it back in original machine and reformat and install fresh copy of windows.

Boot from the windows CD, you will get a choice of reinstalling the OS or repairing it.

boot from your windows xp cd. then press “r” for repair. this will reapir everything.

You have the capabilities to do some good here, learn from this mistake, you in all of your wisdom have deleted some of the core files that help your computer to work (I hope that this comes off nice) you will need to do a restore repair, if you do not know what this is hire a Pro(or buy some beer for that kind of cheap guy like me) and have them do it. this is not to be mean, but it takes a bit of time to do this and if you have never done it before then you will A. erase the entire OS(some times that is ok but all of the files go away with it) B. make it worse by getting frustrated and taking a baseball bat to you computer( I did this to my old printer, sort of office space) I hope this helps..
